| Paddy Power has installed Wembley as 5/2 joint-favourites alongside
Real Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium to host the 2010 Champions
League Final.
With the shortlist announced by UEFA, Germany’s Allianz
Arena and Olympiastadion are also in the running at 3/1 and 4/1
respectively with Valencia’s Mestalla the 6/1 outsider.
A possible good omen for English teams is that Nottingham Forest
were the winners the last time the European Cup Final was held
in the Bernabeu back in 1980. Wembley has not hosted the final
since Barcelona’s win in 1992.
Paddy Power said: “England’s national stadium will
be keen to host club football’s flagship match as soon as
possible as it seeks to underline its credentials as a world-beating
stadium. However Real Madrid officials will be thinking they are
long overdue their turn.”
UEFA has announced their shortlist for the 2010 and 2011 finals,
with a decision due later in the year.
Paddy Power are also betting on the 2010 UEFA Cup Final venue,
making Gelsenkirchen home ground the 7/2 favourite. Arsenal’s
Emirates Stadium is also on the shortlist with Dublin’s
rebuilt Landsdowne Road a 5/1 outsider.
